Who are Our Classes For?

Iyengar yoga is for anyone and ANY BODY!

  • Those who are already fit and want to deepen their flexibility and core strength
  • Those who would like a place to start exercise without judgment from practiced gym-goers
  • Those who have body challenges: knee issues; back pains; arthritic or achy joints; or any other physical limitations that keep you from beginning an exercise routine
  • Those who have stress issues, demanding jobs, anxiety attacks, sleep disturbances

Yoga can help people of any age or physical condition to move toward ease and health in the body and mind. Iyengar props allow for precise pose alignment for maximum benefit.

Class Descriptions

BEGINNER IYENGAR YOGA BASICS

60 minutes | BEGINNER

This class is perfect for all levels of yoga experience or those wishing to revisit the basics. The classes are progressive, building on strength, flexibility and balance week-to-week. The focus is on precise postural alignment in the standing poses. Here the student begins to learn how to listen non-judgmentally to the body. Each class will conclude with a mindful, meditative relaxation.

RESTORATIVE

90 minutes | BEGINNER

A restorative yoga class typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. Recommended for everyone at least once a month to allow the body to gently absorb the intelligence learned in the more active classes.

PRIVATE CLASSES

60-90 minutes | ANY LEVEL

MEDITATION

VARIED

Meditation can be a beautiful compliment to yoga, both of which teach us to still the busy "monkey mind" and to be present with "what is." If you can't sit for long periods, you can do a walking meditation. If you get distracted with walking, you can do a chanting meditation. There are many meditation paths and all have enormous physical and psychological benefit.

TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA

50 minutes | ALL LEVELS

Violence experienced in the body makes layers of memories called Samscaras in the yoga tradition.   What we want our yoga to do is give positive body experiences to overwrite those negative layers so that each of us is at ease in our own body.  We want to retrain ourselves to respond differently to life and to our body  - we can do this when we are in control of the journey.  Come let an hour of trauma informed yoga give you a loving, kind body experience. We will move mindfully and create space for transformation to happen.
