My Pose Does Not Look Like Her Pose

BLOCK THE NEED TO COMPARE * * * BOLSTER WHAT YOU NEED TO GROW

  • FIRST:  Don’t try to “fix” your yoga pose by comparing yourself to the instructor (or that super bendy person in the front row).
  • SECOND:  Yoga is about meeting yourself on the mat, as you are.  Honor your unique body.  Listen to what it needs to feel better.
  • THIRD:  Be aware that there may be anatomical reasons your pose is different:  If your arm bones are short your down dog will look different.  Therefore, that does NOT mean your pose is “wrong.”  And that definitely does NOT mean your effort is wasted.
  • FOURTH:  If you force your body into a pose an injury is possible.  That is the OPPOSITE of what your time on the mat is about.
  • FINALLY: Trust your body!  Trust your pose!
