What Does The Frog Say?

MR. FROG SAYS CREATE BALANCE

Y’all know how I love to go on and on about the wonders of yoga.  Here’s yet another reason yoga is good for the body:

There are two branches of the Autonomic Nervous System regulating the involuntary functions of the body:

1. The Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) elicits a flight or fight response in the body.

2. The Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) stimulates rest and repair through the body.

Yoga activates the PNS which triggers a relaxation response that makes changes such as decreased heart rate, muscle relaxation, and increased saliva leading to long-term good health, well-being, BALANCED systems, better digestion, and easier breathing! When you activate the PNS through Yoga practice it is helping you reside in the PNS response for prolonged periods of time.

The more invisible stressors of life can keep us in the SNS like fear, grief, heavy emotions and negative thought patterns. By consciously changing thoughts to positive, taking stock and using a  conscious breath method, the PNS once activated, does all in its power to bring well-being and BALANCE.

Think of an elastic band that has been overstretched, (overworked muscles, heighten stress/grief).  This is the working of the SNS.  The activated PNS brings ease and expansion. This means that anything that has been contracted will start to expand and in this expansion, we can experience pure pleasure and make spaciousness which leads to BALANCE.
